Introducing Our School
Welcome to the Schools of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) Primary School K–6, Leederville. The Schools of Isolated and Distance Education is the centre for distance and online learning within the Western Australian Department of Education. The Leederville campus of SIDE provides quality education for children who, for various reasons cannot attend classes in a regular school.
You are joining a unique school. The key to our success lies in the quality of the relationships we build between students, teachers and home tutors. We work together as a team. The Primary School’s highly professional and experienced teachers understand your child’s needs and have the ability to communicate and foster a strong relationship with them. As a result of this relationship we are able to adapt curriculum to suit individual needs and circumstances.
We value and rely on your input into your child/children’s education. To new students and home tutors, we look forward to developing this unique relationship with you. To our ongoing students and home tutors, we look forward to continuing and building on our existing relationships.
Our flexible teaching approach means that every student has the opportunity to achieve their best whilst taking responsibility for their own learning. Our students develop the motivation and skills for lifelong learning, enabling them to contribute positively to society.
Increasingly, students will receive their work via our Learning Management System, Moodle, or on a USB device. Both methods of delivery require internet connection, a computer, scanner and printer. Students are required to print their own workbooks or work online.
Attendance at SIDE is based on the completion and timely return of school work sets and attendance in online lessons. All home based students are expected to participate in online lessons through our web conferencing system. Some exceptions may be your time zone incompatible with the Western Australian school day or you have issues with your internet connectivity.
Studying by distance education through SIDE enables our students to develop the flexibility, resourcefulness and motivation required to respond to the changing needs of the 21st Century.
Once eligibility is finalised your child/children’s new teacher will contact you to arrange an orientation to outline our distance education program. It is extremely important that you are able to attend this.
We look forward to working with you to ensure that your child/children receive/s a quality education and well prepared for the challenges of tomorrow. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact the school on 9242 6347 or by email
I look forward to meeting with you and your child/children in the near future.
