SIDE Primary School, as part of SIDE K – 12, is an online school. The educational program is delivered via a blended model. There is an online classroom, Webex, course materials accessed through Moodle, teacher contact via telephone or email, kits, reading books, access to commercial online programs such as Reading Eggs, as well as our Resource Centre. All of our students need to have access to a computer work station or laptop with Internet connection, email, and a printer. SIDE may print some materials but increasingly our Western Australian Curriculum materials are accessed through our learning management system Moodle and will need to be printed by you.

The following are the minimum system requirements for compatibility of SIDE materials:
• PC/Laptop/Mac
• Pentium IV/Leopard
• 2 GB RAM
• 160 GB Hard drive
• DVD/CD Rom Player
• An internet email account
• Win XP (or above)
• Microsoft Office XP (or above)
• QuickTime (latest version)
• Acrobat Reader (latest version)
• Shockwave Player (latest version)
• Mouse
• Headset with microphone
• Webcam (optional)
• Printer

Moodle is our learning management system. Learning materials are accessed through Moodle. Completed learning materials can be uploaded to Moodle ready for teachers to assess.

The Online Classroom is an exciting and rewarding way to engage students in their learning programs. Webex allows students to receive lessons in real time to talk with the teacher, use an interactive whiteboard and text chat. Where time zones allow students can be part of a 'one to one' learning session with their teacher, or take part with other students in group lessons.

Students enjoy sharing ideas, solving problems and developing their IT skills. They can also demonstrate outcomes in speaking and listening as well as other learning areas. When students attend on a regular basis, they become part of a 'class' to develop a rapport with the teacher, willingly engage in online learning and get to know other students in the group. All Webex lessons are recorded so students can access them if they can not join in synchronously.

The Parents Online blog is an online meeting place for parents. It provides an opportunity for SIDE Primary School parents to share ideas and suggestions about their teaching experiences. There is also a section to share travel experiences. T

The SIDE teachers address some teaching tips for home tutors as well.

The blog is accessible to all SIDE parents and we encourage all parents to use the blog. Parents can add comments to the blog. They can share information about current locations and 'must see' places to visit.

Mathletics and MathsOnline are online maths learning programs. They are fun, supportive and effective for students of all ages and abilities, helping students achieve more across the full Kindergarten to Year 12 curriculum. Teachers can monitor individual student results and build individual learning pathways using the Australian Curriculum.
